On the origin of the name

I'm sure many of my readers* know that trying to name something is very hard work. When I created this blog it took me a while to decide on the name of my blog. I had never had a blog before so I had a tough road ahead.

At first I tried to be funny, the original name was "Geek Virgin" but I thought that was too obtuse for a name, especially since it encompassed at least two aspects of the focus of the blog. Sure it would be about me, the titular geek virgin, but also about how I am a blog virgin, hence the virgin of the title. Then it just didn't seem as funny anymore.

Another contender for the name was "Student by day, Crimefigher by night", again focusing on two aspects of my life, the student aspect and the geek aspect. At first I thought the Crimefighter part would be too narrow a description of my interests, so I scrapped it. That and I'm no crimefighter and a mediocre student at best.

After about an hour of looking at that "name your blog" screen, I landed on "This is not a costume". I decided to keep it as I was scared the domain name would be taken in the time it would have taken me to come up with a new name.

As I said in my introductory post, I'm not the most creative person out there, so what I thought would be funny and clever is actually more of an in-joke. It is not that funny out of context. The joke of the name is that I'm so ugly people would think I was costumed, so I would respond: This is not a costume.

Funny, right?
Maybe not.
Maybe if you met me in person you would find it funny.

And so it Begins...

I would have never thought starting a blog would be so easy, the hard part is keeping it going. And trying to choose a name for it. That's the best I could do. Apparently I'm not the most creative guy in the blogosphere (is that how you spell it?).
Whether or not you enjoyed that little joke determines whether you like my blog or not. I'm sensing not a lot of people will be reading this so, what the hell?

I'm starting this blog as a way to share my love for most things geeky and nerdy*, and maybe a little bit of cool stuff regardless of geekiness, that would take a lot more than 140 characters, really just anything that might tickle my fancy, from comics and games to cool videos or maybe even share some of the stuff we're doing in school.

So I guess this is it for my ever first post(?).
